How to Optimize & Reduce size of MySql Database?


MySql databases form the back end of many online applications including WordPress blogs and website, Shopping carts, Asquared knowledge base.

Size of a database is very important for easy management and must be reviewed on a regular basis.

Optimizing Mysql database can greatly reduce overall size of your database. For example: a WordPress Blog database went from 85MB to just 10MB after optimization.

There are a number of articles you can read to understand and learn how to optmise a database. It is recommended you get a basic understanding of how a database works first.


You must backup your database(s) before attempting optimisation or any changes. If something goes wrong, you can then reload the database. It is not recommended you alter the database in any way if you do not have a basic understanding of database operations.
